By transfer from foreign university the student should

Students can have their meals in the low priced cafeterias
which are located nearby the universities. You can dine in any
of the many cafeterias and restaurants including
international fast-food chains (Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut,

Bank and money transactions ? |
|
|
Most
students use the Western Union money transfer system to
receive money from home. There are also a lot of ATMs
where you can withdraw cash using your credit card and
international banks. (Citibank,
Barkleys etc.) We recommend that students and others
convert their currency into roubles only at authorized
exchange boots or banks. These are located all around
St-Petersburg and Moscow and some are even open 24 hours.
Also it is easier to exchange U.S. dollars into roubles at
a good rate and therefore recommend that anyone who visits
Russia to bring their cash in American dollars for added convenience.
Traveller's cheque and other kinds of money vouchers are
also exchangeable. If urgent money transfers are needed,
we can help to transfer money from countries where it has
its representative offices. Your educational fees could be
directly transferred to our bank account from anywhere in
the world so you would not have to carry cash with you. We
can help the students to open an account in Russia, so
that he/she could receive money from his/her parents
directly to his bank account. |

|
| |
What would be the type of accommodation
that would be given by the university in Russia? |
|
|
Accommodation in Russia is in the hostels provided by the
universities. These hostels are run and maintained by the
individual universities or their International student
departments. The location of the hostel would depend from
the university chosen and may not necessarily be close to
the place of study. However, it would be important to note
that Russia offers a very good communication network for
the student commute to the place of study from the hostel.
The pattern of living in the hostel also would depend on
the university. Generally, depending on the hostel, there
would be a 'block' which contains rooms for 3 students and
rooms for 2 students. There are 4 such types of living
rooms. The block would also contain a bathroom and a
toilet. All these rooms are comfortable and are provided
with cupboards, beds, linen, writing tables etc. Every
floor typically has a common kitchen, with enough burners
etc, where the students cook their meals. Certain
universities also provide with a telephone, cafeteria, internet facilities, gym for the usage of
the student. It would be important to note that the above
is university depended and the facilities may vary from
university to university, hostel to hostel. Medstudies
Educational without
prejudice tries its best to provide its students with the
best possible accommodation plan. |

About Medical insurance ? |
|
|
In
Russia you are not automatically insured against medical
costs. Students must make sure that they have adequate
coverage. Foreign students who are privately insured in
their own country should carry with them a statement (in
English) describing their insurance. If you do not already
have insurance that will cover you fully against medical
expenses and liability while you are in Russia, you will
have to obtain a special one-year medical insurance at the
chosen institution which costs approximately 60-100 USD. |
| |
|
|
| |
What is the Cost of living in Russia? |
|
Experience shows that to live in Russia modestly costs a foreign
student between USD 70 and 200 a month. This is needed to cover
daily expenses stated below and to pay some extra costs. The institutions do not have funds for supporting student,
it is the prerogative of Ministry of Education of Russia, as well as
some special funds by private institutions. Still the value of this
additional support is rather meagre, for most of state financing
addressed strictly to Russian universities and enables them to
maintain highly competitive tuition fees.
About one-half of an average student income goes towards housing,
provided the student rents an accommodation in a private sector or
hotel and food costs him/her another half. Most higher education
institutions offer hot meals at subsidized prices. There are plenty
of cafes, pubs where you can eat cheaply and well. But the cheapest
and most pleasant way to eat is to do your own cooking, perhaps
together with housemates. Russian supermarkets carry a large and
international variety of products. The third of money goes towards
books, transportation, and other expenses.
